The FISH Team have been focussed over the last few weeks on the preparation for next week’s FISH Co-design Group gathering onsite at Myalup for the FISH Myalup Karla Waangkiny Healing and Justice Initiative at our 11 hectare site. The group will be flying and driving in from all around Australia to plan the next stages of the more detailed co-design work on both the program and detailed site design as we move each stage to fruition.<br /><br />We have turned the first sod with the first contract being issued and completed by the 100% owned Aboriginal company Thuroona Services Pty Ltd. It was great to have Terry Riley and his team complete the demolition works on site ready for the first construction contracts to be issued. <br /><br />The aim of the FISH Myalup Karla Waangkiny Healing and Justice Initiative in the south of Western Australia is to establish a national proto-type to give Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people a place to heal and receive holistic support to break intergenerational cycles of trauma, avoid (re-) engagement in the justice system and contribute positively to society.<br /><br />The Initiative has been developed ‘by and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’ to assist in bringing about justice reform within Australia.<br /><br />The project development has now been 7 years of work co-designing both the program and the site involving 28 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders and Elders from around Australia and 36 people involved in the justice system.<br /><br />This project has been led by the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as we have completed all the engineering and planning documents. <br /><br />This has involved working intensively with over 10 Statutory State Government Departments within Local and State Government. One of the critical processes used has been the direction of the Co-design group not to involve government until they completed their design work as often government directs what should be implemented instead of listening to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as to what is needed.<br /><br />The works to date have now been completed at a cost of over $1.7M with the whole site now being designed, inclusive of initial engineering and architectural works, traffic management and other reports integrated into the environment of the location.<br /><br />We are now working with both the State and Federal Governments and our corporate and other partners to secure the next stage of funding to bring to successful conclusion the full construction works aimed to be completed over the next 3-4years.<br /><br />We have a long way to go and are excited to bring the FISH Codesign Group together onsite next week. <br /><br />This would not have been possible without the ongoing support of the Rae Group and many others and for this we thank you ! <br /><br />#partnerships #togetherwecandomore #togetherwearebetter #workingtogether #Alternativetoprison #justicereinvestment #justice #codesign #communityled #togetherwearestronger #wellbeing #healing #structuralreform #leadership #bythepeopleforthepeople #justicereform #realdifference #togetherwecandomore #workingtogether

During one of the March editions of Q+A, after the formal part of Q+A Stan Grant was joined by Billy Bragg to perform a special cover of Woody Guthrie's 'I Ain't Got No Home'.<br /><br />Stan sang this song in memory of his Grandfather Keith. Stan said he wouldn’t be the man he was today without the influence of his Grandfather and the voice he spoke into his life.<br /><br />May we all create the space and take the time to listen to each other’s stories, to understand the past, so we can understand the present and learn how we can walk together shoulder to shoulder softly upon this land to make this nation a better place for all.<br /><br />One of the many reasons Stan is passionate about the Voice to Parliament is that his Grandfather didn’t have a voice. The film stars Shantae Barnes-Cowan as Murra. Shantae is a Adnyamathanha woman who also starred in Wyrmwood: Apocalypse and the TV series Firebite. Other roles include Total Control and Operation Buffalo. <br /><br />With problems on the home front, 16-year-old Murra is on the verge of lashing out. That is, until her policeman uncle averts her self-destructive behaviour with a lifeline: a “photo-safari for at-risk kids”. Murra isn’t entirely convinced, but she soon joins cantankerous Kylie, highly- strung Sean, happy-go-lucky Elvis, and team leaders Fernando and Mitch on a transformative bus trip through the Pilbara. Every Monday the FISH Team encourage each one of us, before we start our week, to stop, pause, to reflect and learn. FISH uses the creative space to bring messages of hope, reflection and levers for positive change as we all walk together shoulder to shoulder softly upon this land working together to make it a better place for all.<br /><br />FISH's focus and mission is the social and emotional wellbeing of each other and to provide the resources and processes to navigate the seasons of life.<br /><br />This Monday we thought we would share a meditation from Ngaanyatjarra Pitantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (NYP) Women's Council's Ngangkari Program. <br /><br />The meditation was written and developed by the Ngangkari Program's Uti Kulintjaku initiative in conjunction with Smiling Mind.<br /><br />NPY Women’s Council is led by women’s law, authority and culture to deliver health, social and cultural services for all Anangu.<br /><br />“We were born on this land, we birthed on this land, our blood and the blood of our mothers and grandmothers is in this land.
