FISH believes in the importance of lifting the literacy levels in Indigenous communities and the importance of celebrating language and culture. Storytelling in community has the power to increase cultural understanding and arouse emotions that can lead to action and change.

FISH aims to provide opportunities for First Nations people to share their wisdom and insights to the broader community to teach people how to connect and care for each other and for country, whilst closing the gap and breaking generational cycles of poverty, trauma, and engagement with the justice system.

Access to educational resources is the strongest indicator of later life success. Books foster cultural pride, reignite spirit, and equip people to thrive in the modern world and FISH would like to see all children across Australia have access to the same opportunities to access books and education language resources.

FISH has been actively supporting remote communities, teachers, schools, community groups and carers access culturally appropriate resources for many years for their First Nations students/youth.  As the largest Indigenous-authored only book shop in Australia we also have one of the largest selections of Noongar bilingual books and Noongar educational resources.

The FISH Books for All Initiative will enable FISH to continue to deliver books to communities and to children and families who do not have access to books, especially culturally appropriate books.
