Sustaining Healthy People & Communities

FISH is developing a range of initiatives to meet our Vision for all First Nations people to be confident, connected, and healthy

These projects provide equal opportunities for education, training, employment and life choices. They are run either directly by FISH or in partnership with others. As we do this, First Nations people are given opportunities in our society to be valued as positive, healing, and leading contributors to community in connecting people to caring for each other and caring for country.

If we are to break the cycle of generational trauma, poverty, and engagement in the justice system, First Nations people need to play a leading role in the development of projects and initiatives. This is what we do! The FISH team actively work with a broad cross section of our community to achieve positive outcomes.

FISH Social Enterprises are a key part of our business and fulfil 4 key aims.

The 1st – Innovative Funding
FISH does not rely on government funding so we need to be innovative in generating income to fund our work to achieve our mission of improving the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people & breaking intergenerational cycles of trauma, poverty and engagement in the justice system.

The 2nd – Indigenous Employment
FISH social enterprise activities enable us to employ and train Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people in retail management and service.

The 3rd – Supporting Indigenous Business’s
FISH Social Enterprise shops help to support the economic independence of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander artists, authors and micro-enterprise owners.

And finally, the 4th – Authenticity
FISH Social Enterprises makes available authentic Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander art, stories, clothing, food and cooking products and merchandise to the general public so they can share in the wisdom, knowledge and beauty of the oldest living cultures in the world.
